Tentative (and generic) Mission Statement:
Our mission is to explore the business, political and environmental effects, history and revolution of this and similar technologies, and civic cost of the Congress-mandated Digital Television Transition. This project will inform and educate the estimated 19.6 million households who will be affected by the switch from analog to digital signals on June 12, 2009 in the U.S.
(Did that make any sense?...Was is grammatically correct? So much for that News Ed degree!)
Here is the first-draft, extremely tentative, division of labor:
*Profile/Civic Cost - Anthony
*History/Revolution/Time line - Jordan
*Business - Sally
*Environment - Kathy
*Politics - Kyle
The aforementioned "leaders" of these projects will be expected to very clearly detail, in advance, via this blog so that all group members can contribute and be a part of the entire product. We want to divide and conquer, AND have the opportunity to learn from and work with each other. Please try to blog on your progress once a week.
A possible home page/connecting piece, is to play off the Cable theme. If you have Comcast, it is the "On Demand" channel or channel 1. Each of the angles will be a different "channel." I know, we are SO clever! : ) Leaders: please have some sort of a "plan" of what your channel will look like by March 1st. Remember April is only two months away and we do not have any deadlines from Rick before the April 24 project due date.

Looks good. Couple questions:
What does digital tv have to do with the environment?
Where's the practical side? (i.e how to's)
Is setting up a web site to look like a tv kind of cliche? Clever, but cliche?
Are the leaders really leaders or is it just their assigned angle?
Just some initial thoughts. Sorry I couldn't make it, but when the boss calls he really doesn't like being told no.
Also, did we schedule another meeting time?
See you guys soon.
Kyle:
The leaders of the angle are expected to lead the page, but is also expected to include (or offer so) other members of the group. I suppose you could do it all by yourself, but I think we all want to be a part of the bigger project as well.
Cliche vs. Clever...tomato, tomato...we need a central theme and this is what the three of us agreed upon. Of course, this is still up for debate. We need a good connector piece...any other ideas you want to pitch? Like I said, nothing is set in stone.
Digital TV's Environment angle...we talked about this at the mtg with Rick. Where are the old TVs going and what are the potential effects from having them in the landfill. This is a major issue for some.
The practical side - how tos...since you are the leader of the political channel, part of your project should include what the legislature says and how that translates to everyday people, which is the How Tos. It is, more or less, the foundation to our project. If you want to switch for some other angle (including those not listed, let us know. I am also interested in doing Politics if you want to take Business).
We have not decided on a time to meet again. I suspect we will want to take some time to formalize a little bit of a plan and do some research using our angles (and share them via blog!)
Hope this answers your questions. Let's talk again soon.
